Since Knocked Up consummated his celebrity in 2007, Seth Rogen has continued his ascent to the kind of built-in comedy stardom that accompanies names like Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler. Now he’s poised to take a stab at one of the most prolific comedy powerhouses of all: The Simpsons.

There had been on-and-off rumors, but Simpsons creator Matt Groening confirmed last week that Rogen will write and co-star in a forthcoming episode of the seminal Fox series. “He wrote an episode we’ll be reading soon, where Comic-Book Guy creates a superhero comic which then gets made into a feature film,” he told a news wire. “Homer plays the lead and to slim down; Seth Rogen will play his personal trainer.”

Warner Bros. also revealed yesterday that it will premiere Observe and Report, a new Rogen comedy about a mall security guard, at the South by Southwest festival in March. That film opens April 10.

British Columbia native Seth Rogen is heading in March to the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Tex., to promote the world premiere of his new comedy, Observe and Report. The film, written and directed by Jody Hill (Foot Fist Way), opens in theatres on April 10, and features the Knocked Up/Pineapple Express star as a bipolar mall cop who picks a turf battle with local police.
