Director Stephen Chow steps down from “Green Hornet.”

According to Variety, Stephen Chow will no longer be directing the Green Hornet movie. Stephen Chow previously directed such Chinese movies as Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, and CJ7. Reportedly, Chow has stepped down from his position as director for Green Hornet due to “creative differences.” Last September, Chow signed on to both direct the movie as well as costar as Kato, the Green Hornet character’s driver and sidekick.

Currently, Chow still plans on playing Kato. The role of Kato was originated by Bruce Lee in the original The Green Hornet television series. Producer, Neil Moritz, and Columbia Pictures now have the task of finding a new director for the project so the movie can still go before the cameras in the spring of 2009.

The new The Green Hornet movie was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, with Rogen set to star as the titular hero. Ironically enough, Rogen recently starred in the Kevin Smith movie, Zach and Miri Make a Porno. Several years ago, Kevin Smith was the writer/director tapped to reinvent The Green Hornet as a new, live-action movie before ultimately opting not to go forward with the project.

The Green Hornet was created by Fran Striker as a 1930s serial radio program before being adapted into the 1960s television series.

Do you think it has something to do with what some people believe is Seth’s brother’s conspiracy blog… babywantfota.com???

    supposedly took veiled shots.

  2. Why? Says:

Sounded like a dog when Rogen announced his involvement and intent to make a comedy. At least Chow knows to get out while he can. Perhaps Chow would not disrespect the memory of Bruce Lee with the obvious comedic treatment that was planned. Now all Moritz has to do is get some serious writers in on this and do it the right way like the last two Bond and Batman films. The Hornet is not a comedy its a gritty crime story, the sooner they get that through their heads the better off they will be!
